This morning at 4:00 am Lexe started have troubles keeping her oxygen saturations levels in a normal range. Her ventilator pressures needed to be increased again in order for her to get enough oxygen. This is a setback!! Her chest x-ray this morning showed increased secretions in her lungs. Her heart is again rolling left against her lung. We will find out this morning what the game plan is for the day.
Lexe body is fevering hard and she is trying to cough. Now that she is off the paralytic medicine you can see her facial expressions and it breaks our hearts to see her pain. Every time they suction her lungs through her vent tube Lexe will squeeze your hand with great force. It seems to be a very unpleasant experience. She is disoriented yet aware of her situation. On occasion we see her tears. We write most of these posts through our own tears as well.
Dear Lexe,
ReplyDeleteYou are a fighter! I know this because we share the same jersey number. When I played soccer years and years ago I chose #13 and kept it until I was a HS senior. People think its an unlucky number, but it's lucky for you and unlucky for them. My daughter Izzy aka Miss Sassy Pants is in remission for Wilms Tumor. She was diagnosed at age 4 and is almost 6 now. I can only imagine what your Mom is going through watching you in ICU because there is nothing harder than seeing your child suffer. I want you and your family know that mine has been praying for yours! The power of prayer is incredible and got us through the roughest part of Izzy's cancer journey. Stay positive, keep battling, you've got this!!!
Much Love,
Jennie Abernethy
You guys are in our thoughts and prayers! We only spend one night in the PICU with our cancer fighter and it was more than enough! I can't even imagine what you guys are going through as you watch your sweet daughter hang on for dear life. You guys are fighters and have taught Lexe to be as well! We are sending so many prayers and positive thoughts your way! I also want to add that we are up at PCMC everyday so if you need us to bring anything up Laurie, please just ask. My cell number is 801-336-7064. This isn't an empty offer, I really mean anything! We have only met briefly in the parent room on ICS a couple of times but know that it was enough for your family to be embedded in my heart. Lots of love,

Lexe and Family,
ReplyDeleteI know that you don't know me, but my daughter has neuroblastoma, and when she was diagnosed we were directly admitted to the PICU as she had developed respiratory distress. As I read your words I am reminded of our own journey in the PICU, the vent, the chest x-rays (sometimes several times a day), collapsed lungs, bronchoscopies, the suctioning of the vent, so many similarities. I know our situations are somewhat different, but my heart feels for you and I pray for you and hope that Lexe can recover and overcome these setbacks quickly.

ReplyDeleteYou don't really know me, but I played against you on Sparta. Your an awesome player and such a hard worker! I read your blog constantly for updates! Lexe your such a fighter and a great example to everyone that miracles do happen and if you set your mind to something it can be achieved! You and your family are always in me and my families thoughts! Your so strong.. don't ever give up.. keep fighting!
Lexe,
ReplyDeleteYou don't know me, but I heard about you from a friend of your cousins up here in Logan. You are inspiring to so many! Your fight is touching lives. I don't know if that gives you any comfort, but that knowledge helps my son, Matt, with his cancer battle. He was diagnosed with a brain tumor when he was 9 years old and we have spent way too much time in the PICU! We are praying for you and thinking of you.
Gentle wishes for you and your family.

Dear Lexe,
ReplyDeleteIt breaks my heart to know you are suffering. I know Heavenly Father hurts with us when we have to endure these things. I know the Savior has power to turn this experiences for our good. Jackson
Pulling for you all!! Sending every ounce of strength and love your way -
ReplyDeleteLaurie, we shed tears with you. And through those tears we pray often. I was just able to hear the beautiful song the Ellee Duke wrote for Lexe. If anyone reading this hasn't had the chance to listen to it, you will love it. If you buy it on itunes, proceeds go to this amazing cause.
